I recently came across a blog that listed the top ten search engines 2007. Some of the interesting developments in 2007 is that the MSN search engine is beginning to lose its global market share. Not to one of the recognized names but to the Chinese Search Engine Baidu.

Also a Korean Search Engine NHN Corp is climbing the rankings fast. Does this mean Search Engine Optimization Specialist will soon need to learn second and third languages to compete with the Global Market ?

If so we could be in trouble cause I also found this top search engines site that lists hundreds of major search engines from around the world. Any one of which may make the list next year.

Google is Cracking Down on SEO with Paid Links

Google has made it official. The era of buying paid links for the purpose of increasing a websites pagerank is over. It has updated its best practices SEO Guidelines to include very clear warnings that SEO involving the buying of links will not be tolerated.
"Buying or selling links that pass PageRank is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results."

This was rumored to be part of an algorithm update that affected many sites over the last month and Matt Cutts (Googles Unofficial SEO Spokesman) alluded to this in SEO Search Engine Journal. Now its official.

Well I for one think its about time the to level the playing field for those of us engaged in white hat SEO. Besides I could never afford to pay for links and now I don't have to !

A search engine optimization contest blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun game. The search engine optimization blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun. He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vise versa."

Shopautodotca seocontest new update

Only five days into (my submission to the ) shopautodotca seocontest and I am pleased that I already have some respectable listings on MSN I moved up from 18th to 15th since showing up just yesterday, I figure this is a respectable showing as others have been working on this for almost two monthes.
I was also very pleased to find my shopautodotca seocontest on google at #13 already, however I will wait and see if it sticks as it has been my experience in the past that often google will list high in the rankings initially and then some times disappear.
Lately I have been so busy with work and creating my own shopautodotca seocontest entry that I have not been able to provide any commentary on the other entries or the secontest itself. Perhaps when I get closer to the top rankings it will be easier to pay attention to what is going on way up there.
